With Two Rooks
Two rooks work together to trap and checkmate the opposing king. One rook cuts off the king’s movement along a rank or file, while the other delivers check on the next rank or file. The rooks take turns pushing the king toward the board's edge, eventually delivering mate when the king is on the back rank or corner and has no escape.

Steps to Checkmate
The Staircase:
The staircase is used for 2 Queens/Rooks or Queen + Rook vs. Lone King. It makes use of the fact that the Queen and Rook are long-range pieces and can cut off files from the enemy King from a distance.
The goal is some version of this checkmate – one Queen/rook traps the enemy king on the side while the other delivers the fatal blow.
Use your Queen/rooks to take away 1 file from the King every move, slowly pushing it to the edge of the board
If the enemy King attacks a Rook, swing it to the other side of the board

You don't need a help from the King
