Meet The Chess Army

The Pawn

The Pawn moves forward one square, or two on its first move, and captures diagonally.

The Queen

The Queen can move in any direction up, down, sideways, or diagonally

The Bishop

The Bishop moves diagonally across the board. It can travel as many squares as it wants, as long as the path is clear.

The Knight

The Knight moves in an “L” shape—two squares in one direction and one to the side

The King

The King is the most important piece in chess. The goal of the game is to protect your king.

The Rook

The Rook moves in straight lines—up, down, and side to side—as far as the board allows, as long as the path is clear.
